The Tokyo-based company said in a statement Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006 that Hirai, president and chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment America, will oversee its global operations at a crucial time when its much hyped next-generation game machine PlayStation 3 is rolling out while outgoing President Ken Kutaragi will continue to   stay on as chief executive and chairman and play a key role in the PlayStation 3 business. The appointments are effective Friday, Dec. 1.
